A. B. Poranek is a Polish-Canadian author of young adult fantasy. She grew up sharing her time between Ontario, Canada, and rural Poland, spending summers in the Polish countryside raiding her grandfather's library and helping care for his chickens, and she went on to complete a veterinary degree at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. A lover of mythology and history, she explores both in her writing. Her debut novel, Where the Dark Stands Still (2024), an instant New York Times bestseller and a finalist for the 2025 Mythopoeic Award for Young Adult Literature, is an ode to Poland's wild woodlands and folktales. It was followed by A Treachery of Swans, a retelling of Swan Lake set in a world inspired by seventeenth-century France, and by Cinderspell, which draws on dark faerie elements from the tale of Cinderella.
