Barbara Siegel was an American writer of mostly young-adult, shared-universe science fiction and fantasy, working for most of her career in partnership with her husband, Scott Siegel. Active chiefly through the 1980s and into the 1990s, the Siegels produced numerous tie-in and original series for younger readers. Within the Dragonlance line, Barbara Siegel co-wrote Tanis, the Shadow Years (1990), a Preludes-era novel exploring the early life of one of the saga's central heroes before the events of the Chronicles trilogy. Beyond Dragonlance, she and Scott co-authored entries in several other shared-universe franchises, including three books in the G.I. Joe: Find Your Fate line published between 1986 and 1987, four titles in the Fire Brats series (1987–1988), six installments of the Ghostworld series (1991–1993), three books in the Wizards, Warriors and You gamebook series (1985–1986), and the Star Trek novel Phaser Fight (1986). The Siegels' prolific output across multiple licensed universes made them recognizable contributors to the wave of interactive and tie-in fiction aimed at young readers during the 1980s. Later in their partnership, the Siegels moved into theatre and entertainment-industry writing and commentary, establishing the venture Siegel Presents.
