Craig Shaw Gardner was born in Rochester, New York, on 2 July 1949. He began publishing genre fiction with the short story "Rocket Roll" in Unearth in Spring 1978. He is almost exclusively associated with fantasy, mainly humorous original novels and media tie-ins. His Ebenezum and Wuntvor books, beginning with A Malady of Magicks in 1986, form a comic fantasy series in two trilogies. He also wrote the Cineverse Cycle, a spoofish trilogy set in a world shaped by Hollywood B-movie clichés, the Back to the Future Part II and Part III novelizations, two Batman novelizations, and tie-in novels for the Spider-Man and Battlestar Galactica universes. He has also published fantasy as Peter Garrison, and his story collections include A Little Purple Book of Peculiar Stories (2004) and A Cold Wind in July (2011).
