Erik Scott de Bie was born July 18, 1983, and earned a degree in English composition and literature from Willamette University in Oregon. He works as both a fiction writer and a technical writer, with a fantasy-writing career spanning from 2005 to the present. De Bie became a prolific contributor to the Forgotten Realms fiction line published by Wizards of the Coast, authoring novels including Ghostwalker (2005) and Depths of Madness (2007), and later creating his own Shadowbane series within the setting, beginning with Downshadow (2009), which centered on morally complex vigilante and rogue characters operating in the shadowed underworld of Waterdeep. Outside of licensed fiction, he has published independent fantasy novels through Dragon Moon Press, including Shadow of the Winter King (2014) and Mask of the Blood Queen (2017), continuing to explore similarly dark, character-driven fantasy in worlds of his own creation. De Bie has also been notably prolific in short fiction, contributing more than twenty stories to anthologies spanning fantasy, science fiction, and urban fantasy, including Realms of the Dragons II and the collections Human for a Day and When the Villain Comes Home. He maintains an official website, erikscottdebie.com, under the pen name "Worldswalker," reflecting his ongoing engagement with both licensed and original fantasy fiction.
