Jak Koke is a speculative-fiction author best known for his extensive work within the Shadowrun universe, particularly his Dragon Heart Saga trilogy, notable within Shadowrun fandom for killing off the setting's iconic great dragon Dunkelzahn in the year 2057, a pivotal event in the game's shared continuity. His published fiction career began with the debut short story "Deadwise" in 1992, and over more than three decades he has authored more than twenty novels and short stories spanning multiple licensed universes, including Dungeons & Dragons' Forgotten Realms setting and the Earthdawn setting, in addition to worlds of his own creation. Alongside his authorial work, Koke has built a parallel career as a developmental editor, helping other writers refine their manuscripts; his editorial and writing work has earned nominations for the Endeavour, Foreword, and Origins Awards. Currently living as an expatriate in Mexico, Koke maintains interests in science, soccer, and political philosophy, particularly questions of democracy and socialism, alongside advocacy for equality, themes that have informed the thematic undercurrents of some of his fiction. He continues to engage with readers through "Dear Future," a monthly newsletter published on Substack featuring writing guidance, project announcements, and personal reflections, extending his decades-long career in genre fiction into an ongoing direct dialogue with his readership.
