Jedediah Berry was born in 1977 in Randolph, Vermont, and grew up in Catskill, New York. He earned a BA from Bard College and a graduate degree from the MFA Program for Poets and Writers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He worked as an editor at Small Beer Press and teaches in the UMass Amherst MFA program, having previously taught at Bard. With his partner Emily Houk he runs the independent publisher Ninepin Press. His short fiction has appeared in Conjunctions, Chicago Review and Ninth Letter, among other places. His debut novel, The Manual of Detection, appeared in 2009. He later published The Family Arcana (Ninepin Press, 2015), The Naming Song (Tor, 2024) and Kill All Wizards (Tordotcom, 2026), the first of two novels in the Barbaric Ledgers series.
