Jeff Crook is an American novelist who worked as a technical writer for the United States Postal Service before establishing his fiction career. He became a prolific contributor to the Dragonlance franchise, beginning with his debut novel in the setting, The Rose and the Skull (1999), followed by The Thieves' Guild (2000), Conundrum (2001), and Dark Thane (2003). He also contributed to the Rebels and Tyrants anthology (2000) and co-authored the reference volume Bertrem's Guide to the War of Souls, Volume One (2001). Beyond Dragonlance, Crook wrote short fiction for the Sovereign Stone setting, contributed the story The Fractal to the anthology Relics and Omens, published poetry in The Final Word, and wrote AD&D adventures for Dungeon Magazine. He co-designed the Champions of Ruin sourcebook (2005) for the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms setting and served as editor of Campaigns, the Southern Realms region newsletter for the RPGA. Crook later moved beyond tabletop tie-in fiction into paranormal mystery writing with The Sleeping and the Dead, a novel set in Memphis, Tennessee, following a former police detective, Jackie Lyons, who gains the ability to perceive the dead, marking a significant genre shift from his earlier fantasy work.
