Richard Nell is a Canadian author of dark epic fantasy, best known for the Ash and Sand trilogy (Kings of Paradise, Kings of Ash, Kings of Heaven). He holds English degrees and, before writing full-time from 2014 onward, held a wide range of jobs including dishwasher, bricklayer, bin-sweeper, floor-waxer, factory worker, government employee, and insurance manager. His debut novel, Kings of Paradise, published in 2014, became an Amazon bestseller in Canada. He lives in Canada, is married, and describes his interests as including history and video games. He has said his early rejections and years of manual-labor jobs shaped the grim, unsentimental tone of his fiction, and he continues to write further novels set in the world of Ash and Sand.
