Steven 'Stan!' Brown grew up on Long Island and attended Binghamton University before beginning a long career in tabletop gaming and publishing. He started publishing fiction, cartoons, and games professionally in 1982, usually under the pen name Stan!, and has since held significant roles at major gaming companies, including graphic designer and line editor at West End Games, editor and game designer for TSR, Inc., and author, senior game designer, and creative director for Wizards of the Coast. He later served as creative content manager at Upper Deck Entertainment, co-founded The Game Mechanics, Inc., and in 2007 co-founded Super Genius Games as creative director alongside R. Hyrum Savage. Brown contributed to numerous role-playing game franchises, including Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, Ravenloft, and Marvel Super Heroes, and served as a principal designer for the d20 Modern system. He authored two novels published by Wizards of the Coast, and his portfolio spans hundreds of publications, including game modules, articles, cartoons, and design supplements across several decades in the industry.
