Wole Talabi, born Oluwole Talabi on February 28, 1986, in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria, is a Nigerian science fiction and fantasy writer, editor, and engineer. Raised partly in Warri and Benin, he studied chemical engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University and later earned a master's degree from Imperial College London, continuing to work as an engineer alongside his writing career. Considered part of the 'third generation' of Nigerian writers, he is largely self-taught as a fiction writer. His debut novel, Shigidi and the Brass Head of Obalufon (2023), is a heist fantasy drawing on Yoruba mythology and deities, and he has published two short story collections, Incomplete Solutions (2019) and Convergence Problems (2024), with a further novel, The Fist of Memory, forthcoming in 2026. He has also edited notable anthologies including Africanfuturism: An Anthology (2020) and Mothersound: The Sauutiverse Anthology (2023), and is a founding charter member of the African Speculative Fiction Society. Talabi has won the pan-African Nommo Award three times before declining further nominations to make room for emerging writers, and received the 2022 Sidewise Award for Alternate History. His work has also been nominated for the Hugo, Nebula, Locus, BSFA, British Fantasy, and World Fantasy awards, and Scientific American described his fiction as blending transhumanism with questions echoing the Turing test. He married Rocio Vizuete Fernandez in Madrid in 2023.
