Synopsis
The carpenter Papa Carlo carves a puppet with a long nose from a log, and the puppet, named Buratino, comes to life. Carlo sells his only good jacket to buy the boy a schoolbook, but Buratino sells the book to buy a ticket to a puppet show. There the cruel puppet-master Karabas Barabas wants to destroy him for disrupting the performance, yet he spares him on learning that Papa Carlo's home hides a secret door that Karabas has long searched for. A golden key, once owned and then lost by Karabas, opens it. Buratino is given five gold coins and sent on his way, meeting the girl-puppet Malvina, the poet Pierrot and the schemers Alice the Fox and Basilio the Cat, who try to steal his money.
