Synopsis
In a parallel England where the events of Shakespeare's plays are recorded history, the Civil War between Charles I and Cromwell is under way and fairies live openly beside humans. Prince Rupert, a Royalist commander, is captured by the Roundheads. In captivity he falls in love with his captor's niece. Fairy rulers Oberon and Titania take an interest in his cause and help him in a plan to recover the books that Prospero sank long ago, which he believes could turn the war in the king's favour. His quest takes him through a world where old magic, new technology and the stories of the stage are all part of everyday life, and where an inn between worlds offers shelter to travellers.
