Synopsis

After the events of Days of Magic, Nights of War, Candy Quackenbush goes to the enchantress Laguna Munn to have the soul of Princess Boa separated from her own, and discovers that the princess, once free, is not the gentle spirit the Abarat remembers. Meanwhile Mater Motley, Carrion's grandmother, has her own design for the islands: Absolute Midnight, an endless dark that will swallow every hour of the Abarat under a sky of sacbrood, blotting out the sun and the moon alike, and the war she unleashes with her army of stitchlings and the Hour of Midnight's monsters sweeps across the archipelago. Candy, Malingo and the friends gathered over the first two books are scattered across the darkened islands, Carrion returns from the dead, and the book ends with the Abarat in ruin and its story unfinished. The third book, published seven years after the second.
