Synopsis

Armed in Her Fashion, published by Kate Heartfield in 2018, is set in 1328 as the Chatelaine of Hell lays siege to the Flemish city of Bruges with an army of chimera drawn from the underworld itself. Margriet de Vos is a widowed soap-maker whose ordinary life in Bruges is upended by the siege, and who is driven to increasingly desperate measures to protect her adult daughter from the chaos and danger closing in on the city. Her efforts eventually lead her to attempt a journey into Hell itself, a realm she must navigate directly in order to secure her daughter's safety, forcing Margriet into direct contact with infernal politics and creatures far beyond anything her earlier life as a tradeswoman prepared her for.
