Synopsis
Continuing directly from the events of the earlier prequel story, this second tale in David Farland's new Runelords prequel saga follows the young Inkarran Dval after he has managed to save the young Averan and preserve his own life against the odds. But the dangers facing Dval are far from over: the world he inhabits holds far worse threats still, including the fearsome, otherworldly creatures known as the Toth and the unstable, dangerous Mad King Harrill. Building on the first chapter's introduction of Dval's rise against injustice, this installment pushes him into confrontation with these deadlier forces, expanding the scope of the conflict beyond personal grievance into a wider struggle that threatens the safety of the people and lands around him in this earlier era of the Runelords world.

Supersedes an uncorroborated "2016" seen on fantasticfiction, which conflicted with all 3 of these independent sources.
