Synopsis
At the Back of the North Wind, published in 1871, is a Victorian children's fantasy novel by George MacDonald centered on Diamond, a gentle, good-natured boy who lives above a stable with his coachman father. One night, while trying to block a draft coming through a knothole in his bedroom wall, Diamond discovers that the wind he has been keeping out is in fact the North Wind, who appears to him as a great and mysterious woman capable of taking countless forms. The two strike up an unusual friendship, and the North Wind begins carrying Diamond with her on a series of nighttime journeys through the sky and across the city, during which he witnesses both wonders and hardship.
