Synopsis
Beautiful Darkness continues directly after Lena Duchannes's sixteenth birthday and the events that unfolded during her claiming, following Ethan Wate as he notices Lena withdrawing from him and growing increasingly distant and unpredictable in the aftermath. As Lena struggles with the consequences of what happened during her claiming and with darker impulses she does not fully understand, Ethan works to hold onto their relationship while uncovering more about the hidden magical world of the Casters that surrounds Gatlin. New characters and deeper layers of the Duchannes family's history come to light as Ethan searches for a way to reach Lena and understand the forces now pulling at her, extending the series' blend of small-town Southern setting and Caster mythology introduced in the first novel.
