Synopsis
Some three years after American Gods and a year after The Monarch of the Glen, Shadow Moon, travelling in England, stops at a pub in a village of the Peak District, where he hears the local legend of a ghostly black dog that appears out of the darkness before you die. With nowhere else to stay, he accepts a room from an older couple, Moira and Ollie; on the walk home Ollie collapses, convinced the black dog has followed him, and Shadow stays on to help Moira care for him. As he learns more about the couple and their past, the village's history is unearthed and the folklore of Black Shuck turns out to be far from idle. First published in Gaiman's collection Trigger Warning (2015) and later reissued on its own as an illustrated edition.
