Synopsis
Book of Night follows Charlie Hall, a former thief who once stole magical grimoires for gloamists, practitioners of a shadow-based magic system in which a person's shadow can be manipulated, stolen or weaponized. Trying to leave her criminal past behind, Charlie now works as a bartender, but a dangerous figure from her old life resurfaces and drags her back into the world of shadow magic. Caught between her sister's own magical ambitions, the hidden agenda of her secretive boyfriend, and powerful rival gloamists all maneuvering for control of a secret that could grant its holder dominion over shadow magic itself, Charlie has to use every trick she knows to survive, blending heist-style plotting with dark urban fantasy as the first book of the Charlatan Duology.
