Synopsis

In a small village in the Scottish Highlands during the Middle Ages, a mysterious young woodcarver arrives with a peddler named Ned. Maddie, the weaver's daughter, is drawn to him and tries to win his trust. Soon strange things begin to happen: a creature attacks Maddie under the full moon, the carver is badly injured, and a newborn baby with a beast-like mouth dies. The villagers blame the Water Horse that lives in the loch, the lonely noblewoman who occupies a ramshackle castle, or the peddler. As fear spreads and townspeople begin to die one by one, Maddie must find out what lies behind the deaths and decide what matters most to her, even if it puts her own life at risk.
