Synopsis
Sarah Zellaby's story reaches a climax as she confronts her cuckoo heritage and a dangerous plot threatening the Price family and cryptid allies. After being kidnapped by members of her birth species, Sarah undergoes an instar, a metamorphosis that sharply increases her internal power while leaving her outward appearance unchanged, and finds herself stranded in another dimension, separated from allies including Annie and Artie. Hunted by hostile cuckoos and cut off from the people who know her, Sarah must come to terms with her transformed abilities and work out how to bring her companions safely home, all while confronting difficult questions about how much of herself has changed.
Where it sits
- Universe: InCryptid
- Series: InCryptid core; position 10 of 15 in the series' recorded order
- Author: Seanan McGuire
Notes
- From the series record (InCryptid): Multi-generation cryptozoologist family (the Prices/Hayleighs) vs. the Covenant of St. George; DAW. A 16th novel is anticipated by some third-party listings but is not announced on the author's own bibliography page, and is not registered (Article 2). McGuire has also published 50+ further InCryptid short stories/novellas (anthologies, bonus content, Patreon); deliberately deferred as Expanded Canon out of scope, per the same scale-driven deferral this project already applied to Oz's Famous Forty continuation books.
Neighbouring works
Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
- Publication order, within the series InCryptid: position 10 of 15: previous Imaginary Numbers (2020) · next Spelunking Through Hell (2022)
