Synopsis

When Charlie turns twelve on New Year's Eve, the Flame Cats give him a grave warning: something ancient has awoken, and he must be watchful. Soon he learns that the shadow from the Red King's portrait has been released, and that it will do anything to keep him from finding his father. Meanwhile pets are mysteriously vanishing from the city, and Charlie's friend Olivia is in danger of revealing her newfound powers. The fifth book of Jenny Nimmo's Children of the Red King, set again in and around Bloor's Academy, the school for gifted children.

Notes

  • From the series record (Children of the Red King): Also marketed as the 'Charlie Bone' series (US title convention). A separate prequel trilogy, Chronicles of the Red King (2011-2013), covers Red King backstory and is not included here.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.
