Synopsis

City of Heavenly Fire, the final book of The Mortal Instruments, opens as Sebastian Morgenstern, Clary's corrupted brother, leads an army of Endarkened Shadowhunters in coordinated attacks on Institutes around the world, an assault that includes the kidnapping of Mark Blackthorn and forces an emergency gathering of Shadowhunter leadership in the capital city of Alicante. As Sebastian's forces grow and the Seelie Queen moves to ally herself with him, the ruling Clave issues an ultimatum demanding that Clary and Jace surrender themselves, while several Downworlder representatives are seized and taken to the demon realm of Edom. Facing an enemy who is also her own brother, Clary must weigh her family's history against the safety of the wider Shadowhunter world as the series' overarching conflict reaches its final confrontation.
