Synopsis
Viana, only daughter of the Count of Rocagris, is betrothed to Prince Robian, heir to the throne of Nortian. During the winter solstice feast, a man called Lobo arrives uninvited to warn that barbarians threaten the kingdom and that action should be taken before spring, as the king and his counsellors argue. As he predicted, the barbarians invade Nortian, and the invasion changes the lives of Viana and those around her.
