Synopsis
Ruthie Berry, a young writer who needs the money, takes a job interviewing Jerry Jones for a book. As a boy, Jerry told his mother stories about a land called Neverwas, reached through a garden, and she turned them into a children's series that made her famous. Now an adult, Jerry says he remembers none of it and wants to leave Neverwas behind him. Then Ruthie arrives, and so does Mr. Sattermole, a persistent man who is searching for Jerry's old garden. Their questions stir Jerry's memory, and the trail leads beneath the cities, through subway tunnels in London, Baltimore and elsewhere, toward a mythic realm that may be real. Love and death are at stake for everyone drawn in.
