Synopsis
Prince Ashurek and Silvren, the lovers from the first books, are now in the glittering city of Niankan-Siol, a city built on the labour of an enslaved underclass. Meanwhile the Maelstrom is tearing apart the world of Jhensit. The novel follows the pair after the events of A Blackbird in Silver Darkness, as they are caught between the splendour and cruelty of the city and the forces unravelling the world around them.
