Synopsis

Five years before the War of the Lance, the Companions have gone their separate ways, each vowing to return with news of the growing darkness in Ansalon. Sturm Brightblade, a warrior whose honour is his life, and Kitiara uth Matar, a passionate woman of uncertain loyalties, travel north toward Solamnia in search of Sturm's long-lost father. Before they reach their destination, a band of professorial gnomes begs for their help, and nothing with gnomes ever goes as planned: their flying ship crash-lands on Lunitari, the red moon of neutrality, a desolate place of tree-people ruled by a mad monarch, giant ants of living crystal and a brass dragon dwelling in an obelisk. The first of the Dragonlance Preludes, written with Tonya R. Carter.
