Synopsis

Judith Vogt's steampunk novel is the second, standalone volume of the Eis&Dampf series. The flying circus Zirkus Apocalástico tours nineteenth-century Europe with horse acrobats, a bearded lady, a live mammoth, an electricity-wielding magician, and the trapeze duo Ferenc Badi and Yue. When masked hijackers seize its airship and steer it toward lands no European has entered, the performers find that nothing is what it seems. Foreign agents are working inside the circus, and a dreadful secret is spreading among its members. At their destination they meet an unfamiliar, bloodthirsty high culture, and the journey home will demand everything from them.
