Synopsis
Elak, exiled prince and wandering swordsman, is drinking in a tavern brawl in the Atlantean city of Poseidonia when the druid Dalan seeks him out to reclaim his birthright: the dragon throne of Cyrena. The threat driving Dalan's urgency is Karkora, called the Pallid One, an alien and utterly inhuman entity that has possessed King Sepher of neighboring Kiriath and is using him to wage war on Cyrena as the first step toward conquering all of Atlantis. Reluctantly accepting his destiny, Elak sets out with his comic, hard-drinking companion Lycon, Dalan, and Mayana, a mysterious sea-born woman who holds knowledge crucial to stopping Karkora, on a journey through Cyrena and Kiriath and to a sunken sea-city where the answer to defeating the Pallid One may lie.
