Synopsis

Dragon's Kin, co-written by Anne McCaffrey and her son Todd McCaffrey, opens at Camp Natalon, a mining settlement roughly five hundred years after Pern's original colonization, in the years just before the return of Thread known as the Third Pass. After a cave-in kills his father and destroys his family's watch-wher, a nocturnal, dragon-like creature bonded to Pernese households, young Kindan is left without a place in the camp until camp leader Natalon and the traveling Master Harper Zist take an interest in him. When Natalon's own watch-wher produces an egg, Kindan is drawn into the unfamiliar task of raising and training the creature, with unexpected help from the reclusive Nuella, all while simmering tensions between Natalon and his uncle Tarik strain the camp's fragile stability.

Notes

  • From the series record (Dragonriders of Pern: the Third Pass era): 5 novels co-credited 'Anne McCaffrey and Todd McCaffrey' on their original editions, set in the 'Third Pass' prequel era (~500 AL). Sky Dragons (2012) was completed and published after Anne McCaffrey's November 2011 death but retains joint credit as the concluding volume of a collaborative project begun while she was alive.
