Synopsis

After the sudden death of their mother, two sisters who have spent thirty years apart are brought back together. Agonie is a witch and Félicité is a ghost ferrywoman, a guide of ghosts; both were raised by a shepherd. They set out to find their mother's spirit and to learn her last words, but the ghost is nowhere to be found, and the people who knew her describe her in conflicting ways. Their search leads them to uncover family secrets and to face the words left unspoken in their lives. The journey runs from the alleys of Nice to the desert of Almería, the Vallée des Merveilles and abandoned villages in Provence, with a tea room offering shelter from the rain. Denoël published the novel in 2023.
