Synopsis
Thirteen-year-old Dusie wakes one morning to find that her hair has turned into a mass of living snakes. Her mother, it turns out, is an immortal Gorgon from Greek mythology, and Dusie has inherited the family curse; her mother had hoped her human half would protect her. Dusie tries to hide the snakes at middle school and carry on with ordinary life, but a boy she likes comes close to discovering her secret. After that near miss she learns that a look from her snakes can turn someone to stone. Dusie must master her temper and her unruly hair, and she seeks advice from other women of myth who know what the curse means.
