Synopsis
Leif Langdon, an American, travels to Alaska and finds a hidden, warm valley cut off from the world. Two peoples live there: the Little People and a branch of an ancient Mongolian race. Both worship Khalk'ru, an evil being from another dimension whom they call up to receive human sacrifices. The valley's people take Langdon to be the rebirth of Dwayanu, a long-dead hero, and Langdon finds himself caught between their rival claims, with his own mind and will coming under pressure from the past. The novel follows his struggle with the valley's rulers and with the dark power they serve.
