Synopsis
In a version of present-day Finland where trolls are real but rare animals, Mikael, a gay photographer, finds an injured young troll near his home and takes it in. The creature is intelligent and oddly human, something like a cross between a cat and a monkey, and Mikael becomes increasingly attached to it. The story is told from several viewpoints and is mixed with newspaper articles, old folk stories and altered history that trace how people and trolls have lived alongside each other, while Mikael's care for the troll begins to affect his relationships.
