Synopsis
A fifteen-year-old farm boy named Eragon, raised by his uncle in the village of Carvahall, finds a mysterious stone in the mountains that turns out to be a dragon egg, which hatches into a dragon he names Saphira. When the tyrannical King Galbatorix learns that a new dragon has appeared, he sends his servants, the Ra'zac, after Eragon and Saphira, forcing the pair to flee their home rather than face capture. Joined by the village storyteller Brom, who becomes Eragon's mentor and teaches him swordsmanship, magic, and the ancient elvish language, Eragon begins to grasp what it means to become a Dragon Rider, a position of power that only the corrupted Galbatorix currently holds.
