Synopsis
Eye Spy is the second book of the Family Spies series, continuing the espionage plot involving Valdemar's intelligence operatives. It shifts focus to Abidela, called Abi, daughter of Herald Spy Mags and King's Own Herald Amily, who has grown up in her parents' shadow without an obvious magical Gift of her own. That changes when she senses that a bridge is about to fail structurally and manages to prevent its collapse, revealing an unusual talent for sensing physical strain and weakness in built objects. The discovery draws interest from both the Artificers and the Healers, who begin training her to refine this ability. As Abi learns to perceive structural flaws almost synesthetically, she realizes the same skill lets her detect hidden rooms and passages throughout Valdemar's buildings, a talent that could make her a valuable spy in her own right if she can master it.
