Synopsis
Claire Danvers leaves Morganville, the Texas college town where humans and vampires live side by side, to join a graduate program at MIT. There she works with Professor Irene Anderson, who is in exile from Morganville, on a machine meant to cancel the mental abilities of vampires. The machine is called VLAD. When Claire begins testing it on live subjects, the results go badly wrong, and she starts to wonder whether leaving home was a mistake. Meanwhile hidden threats are closing in on her and her friends, and the device she built could be used in ways she never intended, both in Massachusetts and back in Morganville.
