Synopsis
Five Hundred Years After returns to Khaavren and his companions five centuries after the events of The Phoenix Guards, with Khaavren now serving as commander of the Emperor's Phoenix Guards under the reign of Tortaalik. His old friends Pel, Aerich, and Tazendra come out of retirement to help him after several members of the Imperial Court are assassinated and Khaavren himself survives an attempt on his life. Investigating the killings, Khaavren comes to believe a mysterious, shadowy figure called Greycat has orchestrated the murders as part of a scheme to plunge the Empire into chaos and then offer to rescue it.

Books 3-5 form 'The Viscount of Adrilankha' trilogy within the sequence. Publication order equals internal chronological order throughout (no divergence, unlike the Vlad Taltos sequence).
