Synopsis

Zar Boaz is preparing for the imminent arrival of the Galinsean war fleet, and the realm seems certain to be plunged into war. His only hope is to use Lazar as a bargaining chip in the negotiations, but the Spur is determined to travel back into the desert to rescue the abducted Zaradine Ana, who is held prisoner by the despotic Arafanz and his fanatical followers and believed to be carrying the Zar's heir. As it slowly becomes clear what Arafanz plans for Percheron, Ana does not know whether she will survive. Meanwhile Pez, once the palace fool, is locked in a battle of wills with his nemesis, the charismatic Grand Vizier Tariq, a contest that may make the threat of war irrelevant as the final confrontation for the region's faith, between Maliz and the rising Goddess, is played out.

Notes

  • From the series record (Percheron): Fiona McIntosh's trilogy of Percheron, a harem-and-palace city-state on the edge of the desert where a new cycle in the war of faith between the demon Maliz and the goddess Lyana is beginning: the odalisque Ana, the young Zar Boaz, his mother Herezah, the Spur Lazar and the 'mad' dwarf Pez.
