Synopsis
Set in Jazz Age 1920s Mexico, this historical fantasy follows Casiopea Tun, a young woman living a drab, overworked life under the thumb of her cruel grandfather in the small town of Uukumil, who dreams of a wider world she believes she will never see. Everything changes when she accidentally opens a locked chest and frees Hun-Kamé, the dethroned Mayan god of death, whose brother usurped his throne, mutilated his body, and left fragments of his essence scattered to weaken any claim he might make on his rule. With her own fate now bound to his by a splinter of bone lodged in her hand, Casiopea sets out with Hun-Kamé on a journey across Mexico to recover the missing pieces of his power and help him reclaim his throne from his treacherous brother, Vucub-Kamé, before time runs out for them both.
