Synopsis

The third volume of The Dark Is Rising sequence reunites the Drew siblings from the first book with Will Stanton from the second, bringing the two sets of protagonists together for the first time in a Cornish village setting. The story is set in motion when the Grail recovered in the earlier book is stolen from the museum where it had been kept, prompting the children and Merriman to work toward its recovery. During the course of events, Jane Drew witnesses the ritual creation of the Greenwitch, a strange and ancient effigy figure made as part of local custom, and her compassion toward the being forms an unexpected bond. That connection proves significant, as the Greenwitch is shown to hold a coded message bound up with the secrets of the stolen Grail, one that the children and their allies must work to understand.
