Synopsis
Eleven-year-old Linnet discovers that she is growing feathered wings. For a while she can hide them under long hair and loose clothes. Her mother, Sarah, had her own wings cut off as a child, and although she will not do the same to Linnet, she does not know what to do instead. She suddenly leaves Linnet with Sarah's mother in Wyoming. There Linnet finds a hidden refuge for people with wings and meets Andy, a sharp-tongued winged teenager. Andy wants the world to accept people like them, while others in the community prefer to stay hidden. Linnet has to decide where she belongs and whether to stay out of sight, join a wider network of winged people, or go public.
