Synopsis
Gryphon in Light is the first book of Kelvren's Saga. It is narrated by Kelvren, an impulsive, extroverted gryphon whose recent self-sacrificial act has earned him respect within Valdemar's military but also created awkward diplomatic complications he is still working through. Frustrated that his heroism has not brought the recognition he expected, Kelvren joins an expedition led by his longtime friend Firesong to investigate a puzzling phenomenon centered on the legendary Lake Evendim. Organizing the multicultural fleet needed for the voyage proves to be its own considerable challenge, forcing Kelvren to work alongside people and species he does not always understand. As the expedition gets underway, it becomes clear that whatever awaits them at Evendim is unlike anything the group anticipated, pushing Kelvren to confront the consequences of his earlier choices as he grows toward the hero he is meant to become.
