Synopsis
Hawkwood's Voyage opens with the catastrophic fall of the great holy city of Aekir to invading Merduk forces and the near-total destruction of the western kingdoms' finest army, a defeat that spares only a handful of survivors, chief among them the disgraced officer Corfe Cear-Inaf. As the Ramusian church responds to the disaster by launching a brutal purge against magic-users and other perceived heretics across the fractured western kingdoms, the maverick sea captain Richard Hawkwood is commissioned to sail his ship Osprey westward across an uncharted ocean in search of a fabled lost continent, a voyage funded by a nobleman with his own secret reasons for wanting explorers, and inconvenient witnesses, far from home. The two storylines, one of catastrophic land war and one of desperate oceanic exploration, begin to reveal a world in far greater danger than either man yet understands.
