Synopsis
Hollow Empire, the second Poison Wars novel, continues the story of Jovan and Kalina as they navigate the political aftermath of the siege and conspiracy that nearly toppled their city-state of Silastra, now facing new and more insidious threats to its stability. As proofer and advisor respectively, the siblings find themselves the target of a deliberate campaign to discredit them, complicating their efforts to unravel a fresh conspiracy working to infiltrate the highest levels of Silastra's government from within. Balancing personal danger with the demands of court politics, Jovan and Kalina must expose the plot before it can undermine the fragile stability the city only just managed to secure, even as misinformation and prejudice within Silastra's own institutions work against them at every turn.
