Synopsis

The second and concluding volume returns to the orphan girl in the palace garden, whose eyelids are tattooed with an apparently endless store of tales, and to the prince who has been listening to them in secret. She now tells the stories inked around her other eye, nested one inside another, from cities of coin and spice to singing manticores and stranger things. But the wedding of the prince's sister Dinarzad is drawing near, the harsh world outside is pressing in on the garden, and the orphan's stories are finally running out, until the tale of the girl herself must be told.
