Synopsis
Inquisitor Mordimer Madderdin fights paganism and heresy in the barbaric lands of Rus'. Many people want to use him for their own ends, and they are so numerous and so ruthless that he can never feel safe. The publisher's blurb asks how matters in Rus' will end, who will come home victorious and who will be carried off on a shield, whether enemies will become friends and friends enemies, and whether love or death proves stronger. What is left to the survivors is love of God and loyalty to the Holy Officium.
