Synopsis
Kaikeyi retells the life of the queen blamed for the exile of the prince Rama in the Ramayana, opening with her childhood in the kingdom of Kosala as the daughter of King Ashwapati. As a girl she discovers she can subtly influence the people around her through a mystical faculty she calls the Binding Plane, a power she keeps hidden as she comes of age. At sixteen she marries Raja Dasharath on the condition that any son of hers will inherit his throne, and she goes on to serve as his charioteer, a trusted council member, and co-founder of a Women's Council that pushes for greater political voice for women.
