Synopsis

Khaled is a djinn who falls in love with Zehowah, the daughter of a sultan in the Arabian kingdom of Nejed. After he kills a rival suitor who only pretended to convert to Islam, the angel of death, Asrael, makes Khaled mortal so that he may court her. He is given no soul, however, and can gain one only if Zehowah comes to love him freely. Khaled enters the kingdom, wins her hand in marriage and takes part in its wars, but she values his courage without grasping what her love means to him. Rivals and conspirators then begin to threaten both the marriage and the throne.
