Synopsis

William Odosson, the eldest son of Baron Odo, is knighted and swears loyalty to his Duke. A castle wizard then tells him his wyrd, or fate: he will never inherit his father's title, and he will see death before he receives any other. Will sets out on dangerous quests that bring him face to face with a man-eating troll, carnivorous mermaids, a dragon and an ogre that cannot be killed by ordinary means. When his Duke turns against him, he is drawn into powerful magic that involves his betrothed, Isobel, and he must meet Lord Death himself.
